Role at ICON:
I am the Clinical Operations Department head for the U.S. division of ICON Clinical Research. Responsibilities include oversight of project performance, staff development, resource management and business development activities associated with obtaining and retaining business.
Background:
I previously worked as a Registered Nurse in the neonatal intensive care and pediatric surgery / recovery units at Vanderbilt University prior to entering the clinical research field. I joined ClinTrials Research in 1992 as a Clinical Research Associate and progressed to Clinical Project Manager during my time with ClinTrials. I started by career with ICON in 1997—I was impressed by their professionalism and commitment.
Career highlights and achievements:
Knowing that every day will be a bit different from the last. I am always challenged by making possible what appears to be impossible and we have the opportunity to do that every day. I enjoy knowing that at the end of a hard day’s work, what we do will eventually benefit others by providing safer and more effective drugs for our friends and families.
I never imagined I would be in the position I have now so to continue to grow and contribute to the organization is a daily achievement. My proudest moments over the years are associated with watching staff develop and hoping in some small way I have helped them to reach their goals.
Working at ICON:
Undoubtedly—the people. I feel privileged to work with some of the most talented and dedicated individuals I know. I enjoy watching our teams succeed and our staff develop very successful careers. The staff at ICON really care and ICON cares about its employees, so it makes for a good match.
On your own time:
Growing up I lived on a farm and participated in many sports such as basketball, tennis, softball and horse competitions. Today my interests are pretty much the same. I spend my time away from work watching sports, playing golf, boating, or just relaxing at my lake home with my friends and 3 dogs .
